Spiritual Growth
St. James' Episcopal School is a program of St. James' Episcopal Church. In the Episcopal tradition, we are called to create
an open and nurturing academic community of faith for all. We strive to be a community which honors, celebrates and
worships God as the center of life. At St. James’, we believe the school, the church, and the family work together to guide all
children to the realization of their God-given potential and that academic excellence is a community responsibility.
Our Episcopal tradition is comprehensive and inclusive, and as a school we seek to model God’s love and grace for
everyone. We embrace religion as essential to student learning and development of character and spirit. As an Episcopal
school, our foundation is a love that values the goodness and unique gifts of every child.
There is a certain amount of religious content in our program. For example, we begin each day with a short Chapel service of
singing, stories, and prayers. We openly share our faith that God is real and is a part of our lives. We foster an atmosphere of
caring, where children may readily help each other and ask for help. We encourage our teachers to touch as they teach and to
hold children when they are upset or need attention.
