Tradition.

Not only do we honor our Episcopal tradition at St. James', but we have also established many traditions that have become an integral part of our School.

St. James’ Episcopal Church Services
We hold many of our important occasions in St. James' Episcopal Church. We begin the school year with Parent Orientation held in the Church Sanctuary to welcome new and returning families to the St. James' community. We open the school day for elementary students with prayer and song during morning assembly in the Side Chapel. Elementary students also attend Wednesday service every week at the Church. Our Christmas program takes place in the Church with all grades participating. Our school year always ends with prekindergarten Graduation programs at the Church.

Thanksgiving Program
We hold our annual preschool Thanksgiving Program in the Parish Hall before Thanksgiving break. The story of the first Thanksgiving is narrated by the Head of School, and each preschool class performs a song, poem or scripture piece. Students dress as pilgrims, native Americans, and turkeys. After the performance, a special Thanksgiving luncheon is served. Tables are decorated by the students.

Our elementary students celebrate Thanksgiving by re-enacting the first Thanksgiving meal. All classes gather together in the Parish Hall for a special Thanksgiving feast with each class representing members of the first Thanksgiving.

Christmas Program
We hold our annual Christmas Program in St. James' Episcopal Church. There are two performances - one by preschool students and one by elementary students. In each performance, students re-enact the nativity of Jesus Christ in costume and sing Christmascarols. Parents and families are invited to attend.

Mother's Day Tea
One of our longest standing traditions is Mother's Day Tea. In the Parish Hall, mothers are seated at tables adorned with handmade crafts by the students while each class performs a special song or poem on the stage. The performance is followed by tea, lemonade, finger sandwiches and sweets for mothers and their children.

Breakfast with Dad
In 2011, we introduced a new event that we know will be a cherished tradition, Breakfast with Dad. Fathers accompany students to the Parish Hall for a continental breakfast and one-on-one time with Dad. Fathers later receive a special gift made by the children during class that day. The breakfast is usually held three mornings in January.

Annual Events
Some of our other traditions are Oktoberfest, Family Day, Field Day, Beach Day, and community service projects. Such traditions add vibrancy to the St. James' community.
