Saint James’ Episcopal School (SJES) seeks a dedicated and compassionate educator to serve as an Elementary Teacher. This role is responsible for creating an engaging, developmentally appropriate, and supportive learning environment that nurtures the spiritual, physical, emotional, cognitive, and social growth of each student. The ideal candidate values the whole-child approach and fosters academic curiosity, creativity, and character development in alignment with the school’s mission and values.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement daily, weekly, and monthly lesson plans based on the SJES curriculum
  • Provide differentiated instruction in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and social-emotional learning
  • Incorporate technology, hands-on activities, and project-based learning into instruction
  • Foster critical thinking, collaboration, and inquiry-based learning
  • Assess and document student progress; provide timely feedback and regular reports to families
  • Prepare substitute teacher plans to ensure instructional continuity
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and inviting classroom environment that showcases student work
  • Supervise students during all activities, including outdoor play and classroom transitions
  • Reinforce classroom expectations utilizing Responsive Classroom
  • Support the development of students’ independence, responsibility, and social-emotional growth
  • Lead or help organize school-wide events such as the Science Fair, History Museum, and service-learning projects
  • Participate in Morning Assembly, Chapel, and Church services as needed
  • Communicate regularly with families via newsletters, updates, and personal correspondence
  • Conduct at least two parent-teacher conferences per year and additional meetings as needed
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support student growth and placement
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional learning, and teacher workdays
  • Complete 8 hours of continuing education annually, in addition to CPR, First Aid, and Sexual Abuse Prevention training
  • Uphold all school policies and report concerns to the Head of School
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative, respectful, and mission-driven school culture
     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 3–5 years of experience teaching in an elementary classroom preferred
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and differentiated instruction
  • Understanding of student-centered learning and assessment practices
  • Experience with classroom management and behavior guidance
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and other educational technology tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, families, and colleagues
  • Ability to build an inclusive, engaging, and academically rigorous classroom environment
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated, and mission-driven approach to teaching
  • Full-time availability aligned with the school’s academic calendar
  • Willingness to participate in Chapel, school events, and community activities

Hours & Compensation:
This is a full-time position. Compensation is based on experience.
