Preschool

The Saint James’ Preschool curriculum is play-based, developmentally appropriate, and intentionally designed to support the whole child. Children learn best through meaningful play, exploration, curiosity, and discovery—so each day is filled with hands-on experiences that spark joy and foster growth. Our theme-based approach brings learning to life, and the virtues in our mission statement are woven naturally into every classroom moment.

We are licensed by the Virginia Department of Education and offer the following age-based programs:

• 2x2s – Age 2 by September 30; working toward potty proficiency
• Preschool – Age 3 by September 30; potty proficient
• Pre-kindergarten – Age 4 by September 30; potty proficient

In addition to rich classroom learning, our preschoolers experience a variety of specials —Chapel, Music, and Outdoor Education—that broaden their understanding of faith, nature, creativity, and community. From singing in Music class and chapel to exploring our wildlife garden, children discover new interests and build confidence in joyful, age-appropriate ways.

Our campus is also full of beloved traditions that make preschool magical: Thanksgiving feasts, Christmas pageants, Mother's Day Tea, and special theme days that create lasting memories for children and families alike.

Our safe, engaging classrooms are stocked with materials that support development in early literacy, numeracy, science, fine and gross motor skills, and imaginative play. Our dedicated and experienced educators honor each child’s individuality, celebrate developmental milestones, and partner closely with families to nurture each child’s unique gifts.

Program Options

• 2x2 and Preschool: Two-, three-, and five-day options; all classes are three hours long
• Pre-kindergarten: Four- and five-day options; all classes are four hours long; students eat lunch in their classrooms and may also order hot lunch
