Saint James’ Episcopal School is deeply grateful to the family of Dr. Aileen Hyland Laing, affectionately known as “Ninie,” for establishing the Aileen “Ninie” Laing Education Fund in her loving memory. Dr. Laing passed away on October 22, 2026, and we are honored that her legacy will live on through this meaningful gift to our School.

Ninie’s connection to Saint James’ began as a student at The Calvert School, once located on the grounds of Saint James’ Episcopal Church. Years later, she helped establish our elementary program and remained a huge supporter of the growth and development of the School. A lifelong educator, Ninie taught art history at Sweet Briar College for 30 years and was a devoted member of Saint James’ Church.

The fund will provide need-based tuition assistance to children whose families might not otherwise be able to afford a Saint James’ School education. Through this fund, Ninie’s legacy will live on in future generations of Saint James’ students, opening the doors of a school she helped shape to children who will benefit from the same nurturing, faith-filled environment and educational foundation she valued so deeply.
